Sailing Conditions

Go or No Go?

At Living Sky Sailing School, we keep a constant watch on the weather. Our guide is when the wind is predicted to be at 30kph or higher or 25kph with gusts to 40kph, we will not go on the water or quickly return to the dock. We also watch for probability of Thundershowers. Even though sailboats (including ours) have a system to dissipate lightning, we don't want to experience it! We will either not go out, quickly return to dock or seek shelter.

In the event of bad weather, a THREE HOUR EXPERIENCE will be cancelled and hopefully rescheduled.

A COURSE may still go on. Many components of the practical section can be done on board and in the marina. Docking practise is much easier, if no other boats are moving!

Physical Fitness and Mobility Information

Our mission is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for individuals of all ages to learn the skills and techniques needed to become confident and competent sailors. We are dedicated to promoting the sport of sailing and its many benefits, including physical fitness, mental well-being, and environmental awareness. Our primary concern is your safety, and we want to make sure that everyone has a positive and enjoyable experience. Certain activities and tasks require a minimum level of fitness level and/or mobility. If you have any concerns or restricted abilities, you think may limit your participation please contact us prior to your arrival.

Examples of such tasks are:
- stepping off the boat to the dock as we prepare to tie up upon return.
- pulling up a 15kg anchor with 100’ of chain and rope.
- moving to the front of the boat on the deck while the boat is moving with a gentle rolling motion.
- cranking winch handles to tighten lines.

*Any extreme activities will always be performed by the trained crew on board!

We encourage all students to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle but understand that everyone's abilities and limitations are unique. Our goal is to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to fully participate and have fun, so please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns.
In any experience with Living Sky Sailing School,
in the unlikely event that
any ONE of the participants on board is uncomfortable, uneasy or wants to return to the dock,
their wish will be addressed as a top priority!
